How the Zinc plating process takes place

In the electrolytic zinc plating process, the material to be treated is duly degreased and prepared before being immersed in an electrolytic solution, acid or alkaline, containing zinc salts. Finally, a current is created between the workpiece and the solution, which causes metallic zinc to be deposited on the surface of the workpiece.

After zinc plating, the treated part enters a passivation bath which creates a thin protective film which, once dried, increases resistance to atmospheric corrosion and improves appearance.

An additional post-passivation sealer can be applied to increase corrosion resistance and smoothness. The appearance is metallic and the color depends on the passivation applied after the zinc layer.
